What are my options?

There are two types of printers: ink jet and laser. New models of ink jet printers can produce good print-quality. They use less energy and are cheaper up-front than laser printers. Laser printers are often preferred by consumers because they produce high-quality print products. However, consumers can purchase slower processing laser printers to reduce the energy consumption via printing.

How to buy?

Look for ENERGY STAR printers, which cost about the same but are about 25% more efficient than regular models.  Also look for a printer with an automatic “power down” function during times of inactivity.
